Description

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi is an autonomous organization working under HRD. The establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was initiated by Govt. of India in 1986 in accordance with the National Policy of Education. The idea was the brain child of late Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi with the noble intention of providing quality education to the rurally talented children. Hence the provision of 75% of seats reserved for rural children while the rest are for urban children. All the JNVs are residential in nature. At present, there are 598 Navodaya vidyalayas functioning through out the country spread in 27 states and 7 union territories being one in each district.
